Best Ayurveda Nephrotic Syndrome Treatments, Causes, & Symptoms

Nephrotic syndrome is an indicator of kidney damage. It is a collection of symptoms, and some of its complications are -

  • Albuminuria: Albuminuria is a health condition in which a large amount of protein gets leaked in the urine.
  • Hyperlipidemia: It is a condition that portrays a higher than normal amount of cholesterol and fat in the blood.
  • Hypoaluminia: A situation when the amount of protein in the blood gets reduced from the normal range.

Albumin is an essential protein that acts like a sponge in the blood that draws extra fluid from the body if left by the kidneys. The blood loses its capacity to draw excess fluid from the body when albumin starts leaking into the urine. This inability to remove extra fluid causes accumulation that result in edema.

The kidneys consist of a channel of tiny blood vessels connecting to the nephrons are known as Glomeruli(s). These millions of small blood vessels carry the extracted waste to the bladder, which gets eliminated in the form of urine.

Nephrotic syndrome is a collection of symptoms indicated by damage to these blood vessels. It can transpire in children and adults.

Who are at a Higher Risk of Getting Affected by Nephrotic Syndrome?

People of different ages, sexual orientations, body types, and ethnicities can develop Nephrotic syndrome. The information mirrors that males are at a higher risk of developing this disorder as compared to females. Following are some of the different factors that are responsible for provoking Nephrotic Syndrome:

  • Dependency on pain killers, anti-infection pills, and certain other ayurvedic medicine for nephrotic syndrome
  • Carrying a health problem that can turn into kidney disease
  • Or, suffering from HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C

What are the Conditions Leading to Nephrotic Syndrome?

Nephrotic syndrome originates due to damage to the tiny blood vessels of the kidney. This damage allows the protein or albumin to leak through urine. As a result, albumin starts to reduce in the blood, causing an accumulation of waste fluid and several disorders, including kidney damage.

The damage to the Glomerulus is not any specific reason oriented. In children, Glomeruli(s) are affected by minimal change disease, whereas, nephrotic syndrome treatment in adults, there can be many reasons. For a better understanding, we have briefly explained the leading causes of albumin infusion in nephrotic syndrome, including minimal change disease.

  • Minimal Change Disease: It can occur both in children and adults. It depicts normal to very mild irregularities in the Glomeruli(s).
  • Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis: The most common cause of Nephrotic syndrome in adults that is responsible for scarring and collision of the Glomeruli(s).
  • Membranous Nephropathy: A condition in which the accumulation of protein deposits thickens the walls of blood vessels that eventually leads to excess leakage. This thickening of the membranes is dependent on factors like hepatitis B, malaria, lupus, and cancer.
  • Diabetes: When the patient has diabetes, the Glomeruli(s) of the kidneys get affected. It is always advisable to limit sugar intake to prevent the damage from deteriorating.
  • Blood Clot: It happens when the blood clot blocks a vein connected to the kidney. It stops the kidney from filtering the blood and makes it unfit.
  • Medications: Consumption of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics can also cause nephrotic syndrome.
  • Infections: Infections like HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and malaria can also contribute to nephrotic syndrome, as they cause the kidneys to go under undue stress.

What are the Symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome?

Some of the primary symptoms of Nephrotic Syndrome are:

  • An abnormal amount of protein in the urine: The high proportion of protein in the urine means the urine has an unexplainable amount of a protein called albumin. Albumin found in the blood is needed for scanning various regulatory functions in the body, such as keeping up the right balance of water and other fluids, transmuting nutrients across the cells and tissues, and preventing swelling in the body parts. When the kidney functions get affected, the filters may enlarge and permit the large molecules of the protein to leak through them. Learn that losing protein from the blood can be life-threatening as the body would be in a deficit of this vital nutrient.
  • High blood cholesterol: Of all the waste that your kidneys should eliminate, the leftovers in the form of cholesterol or fatty acids should also get removed. Another condition that states your kidneys are not functioning, as the way it should, is a high amount of cholesterol in the blood.
  • An excessive amount of triglycerides in the blood: Cardiovascular diseases are common in people with low kidney function or vice versa. It is the leading cause of life-threatening conditions in those who already have CKD. If you have a high amount of triglycerides in the blood, say over 500 mg/dL, then it can pose a negative impact on your health. For CKD patients, the average, acceptable level of triglycerides in the blood is less than 150 mg/dL. Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood and measured with the help of a test called lipid profile. For a patient with kidney disease, this test called lipid profile should be done every year or twice a year, as suggested by their doctors.
  • Swelling in legs, lower legs, and feet: Swelling is a telltale sign of any kidney disease that develops consequently with puffy eyes, foamy urine, etc. When any kidney disease arises, the fluid starts to deposit in the cells and tissues of the body. This fluid retention increases the risk of a medical health condition known as edema. Edema is swelling in legs, lower legs, and feet, and also puffiness around the eyes. Some people with Nephrotic syndrome are not able to walk properly because of this condition.

What are the Tests Helpful Tests to Diagnose Nephrotic Syndrome?

If you reach to your doctor after the identification of the symptoms, he may suggest you some test that can tell the exact condition. Some tests and procedure that are used to diagnose Nephrotic syndrome include:

  • Urine tests: In this test, your urine sample is collected by the lab technician. This test reveals the abnormalities in your urine, such as an abnormal amount of protein in your urine. The presence of protein in your urine may symbolize this disorder.
  • Blood tests: The lab technician may take your blood sample to check the level of protein or albumin in your blood if there is a decreased level of blood protein overall. Loss of albumin is often linked with an increased in your blood cholesterol level.
  • Kidney biopsy: In this, your doctor may remove or take a sample of kidney tissue for testing under the microscope. In this test, a biopsy needle is used to remove a small sample of kidney tissue for testing. Kidney tissue is collected and sent to the lab for the identification of the kidney disorder.

How Complicated is Nephrotic Syndrome?

Protein loss during Nephrotic syndrome can bring several health problems. When an unusual amount of protein loss through the urine, blood clots can occur and obstruct blood and oxygen flow. The Nephrotic syndrome also results in the loss of immune system protein known as an immunoglobulin, which helps fight various infections and diseases. Loss of immunoglobulin causes problems like skin infection, abdominal infection, lung infection, meningitis, brain and spine infections, etc. Other complications include –

  • Hypothyroidism- Cure for nephrotic syndrome, it is a health condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid need as per the requirement.
  • Anemia- In this condition, the number of red blood cells gets reduced, which means insufficient oxygen flow in the body.
  • Coronary Heart diseases- In this condition, the arteries connected to the heart get damaged, disordering the blood flow.
  • Hypertension- also, commonly known as high blood pressure, hypertension signifies a forced blood flow.
  • Acute kidney disease - a sudden loss of complete renal capacities
